City Kids, City Kids: How does your garden grow?

Guess what...last weekend we decided to start a garden on our deck.  I am so excited.  We are growing tomatoes, thyme, basil, culantro and parsley for the bunnies.  (I haven't see a bunny on our deck-but that is because they didn't have parsley to eat before)

To get started we went to Home Depot to buy our supplies.  I wanted to plant seeds but Daddy said it was too late so we had to get little plants.  My tomato plant is called Bush Goliath-it is going to be HUGE!!

We decided to put our tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets.  I helped get the buckets.
Larsen had fun trying to get into things at Home Depot.

Daddy and I worked very hard to get the soil ready.

Larsen thought she was helping but she was mostly just making a mess.

Here I am with my tomato plant.  I picked out the blue tomato cage because I think that blue and orange look very good together and blue is my favorite color.

I took pictures of Mommy and Daddy by their tomato plants too.  I did a very good job taking pictures all by myself!

We have already had some basil and culantro from our garden and I liked the basil even though I really don't like green things.  We'll let you know when we start harvesting tomatoes or if we see any bunnies!

Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day...I think...is supposed to be a day where mom gets celebrated and she wistfully thinks about how much her dear children mean to her.  Well Mother's Day with a 3 and 1 year old didn't inspire so much wistfulness.  Both kids had an awful day and by the end of the day I was counting the minutes until my precious little ones were snug in their beds and I could have a glass of wine in peace.  It was another reminder of how with kids the sweetest times can not be planned or forced---and they may not last very long.  So it didn't happen on Mother's Day, but sweet little moments have been happening and keep me going when times are challenging. So here's a a few highlights from our Mother's Day celebrations:

We went for an early morning breakfast at Miss Shirley's.  Fun southern breakfast food.  Larsen decided she was going to perfect her walking and sat in her chair for about 10 seconds before walking her totally adorable self all over the patio.

Took Larsen to church in a smocked bishop dress and a bow...we play Southern around here sometimes. (This was after about 2 million tumbles at breakfast so the first dress had to go and thought we might as well have fun with our crazy day!)
Matt and Bridger made me a delicious ice cream cake.  It was so yummy, but no way were the kids sitting for a cute picture at that time...Larsen was also in her 3rd outfit of the day.  I can't remember the issue with the dress but to the laundry it went.

A highlight of Bridger's school is the Mother's Day Tea.  This took place the Tuesday before Mother's Day and was wonderful.  The kids sang Bushel and a Peck, we enjoyed tea, sandwiches, and treats.  I wore a "beautiful dress" as requested by Bridger and he told me I looked "so pretty" for the first time ever.  So what if other Moms were there in jeans.  It was so touching that he was so excited and gave me a lovely compliment.

Bridger also insisted on dressing up so we could be fancy together.  Love him!

And now 12 months is over too!

So I may be officially 13 months today but with all the birthday activity I am bringing you photos of my last few moments as a 12 month old.  I hope you don't mind I am so late.  Daddy says Mommy is unable to not be late so maybe I am just like her!

In the last week or two I have really decided to walk.  I took my first steps around my birthday, but really I didn't feel like doing much walking then.  Now  I am getting more into it and I walk about half the time and crawl the other half.  I am a much more speedy crawler, but I am allowed to do more fun things when I am walking...like play at the castle park with all these cool things that they have close to the ground.

I had my 1 year check after my birthday and I was 23lbs 2oz and 28 or 30 inches long.  I was such a wriggle worm it was very hard to measure me.  In any case I am not so huge anymore but I am a pretty big toddler still.  Mommy is so sad but she can't find how big Bridger was so she doesn't know how we compare.  She thinks that I am about the same size as him though.

Other than walking I am trying to do some talking.  My favorite syllable is still Bah, Bah but I am making some other sounds too.  I saw wuf, wuf all the time.  We see lots of dogs on our walks, or when I am sitting at the window.   I also can quack and yesterday when we were feeding the ducks I was trying to say duck.  I say MaMa and DaDa sometimes but mostly I just yell for BahBah my brother.  I also saw Bao and point to my bows and then my hair.  However, I don't like if you actually put the bow in my hair...I take it right out.

Last weekend Mommy was away at a conference and Daddy and Grandma and Bridger and I had some good bonding time.  It was a little rough but everyone survived, and I learned that Daddy is pretty great, even though I give him the cold shoulder a lot when Mommy is around.  It is nice to have Mommy back though.  I was having a pretty good week till Friday, and I didn't feel very good and yesterday Mommy discovered I have an ear infection.  Bummer...I am on medicine now so I feel better but I am still not quite myself.

As you can see I don't like to be still for photos at all, but Bridger and I have lots and lots of fun.  Come visit us sometime...we will take you lots of fun places in the city (like to the Harbor where they had this super cool all women drum line yesterday).  I know it just looks like we stay in our house all the time from the pictures.

Drool and Kisses!
